Cinema Italian Style 2009
11.06.2009
November 10-18, a selection of the best Italian Films of 2009
“It‘s a challenge and a great joy to present the current slate of Italian productions in Los Angeles, the heart of the movie industry, in conjunction with Cinema Italian Style,” said President of Cinecittà Luce Roberto Cicutto. “During this past year, Italian cinema has experienced a rebirth in the stories it tells and the way films are produced—with a new generation of authors, actors and producers.” “This year’s edition of Cinema Italian Style will once again reconfirm this renewal and I‘m proud of our selection as a producer and even more so as the President of Cinecittà Luce.” Organized by Cinecittà Luce and the American Cinematheque, Cinema Italian Style 2009 will kick-off with the U.S. premiere of The Offical Italian Entry for Best Foreign Language Film, Academy Awards® 2009, Giuseppe Tornatore’s (Oscar winning director for “Cinema Paradiso”) Baarìa, which opened this year’s Venice Film Festival. Legendary director Tornatore will be in Los Angeles for the premiere. Each year Cinema Italian Style brings a piece of Italy to Los Angeles, offering some of the finest contemporary Italian films and documentaries which have made an impact in both Italy and abroad. Films to be featured this year include: Edoardo Winspeare’s I Galantuomini (The Brave Men); Davide Ferrario’s Tutta Colpa di Giuda (Freedom); Marco Amenta’s La Siciliana Ribelle (The Sicilian Girl); Nico Cirasola’s Focaccia Blues; Marco Filiberti’s Il Compleanno (David’s Birthday); Francesca Archibugi’s Questione di Cuore (Matter of Heart); Michele Placido’s Il Grande Sogno (The Big Dream) and two documentaries, Vittorio D. by Mario Canale and Annarosa Morri (a portrait of Vittorio De Sica) and Hollywood on the Tiber by Marco Spagnoli. Vincere (Win!), the Toronto, New York and Cannes Film Festival pleaser by master filmmaker Marco Bellocchio will close Cinema Italian Style. This year’s edition of Cinema Italian Style is also proud to present the US premiere of Douglas Kirkland’s photo exhibit “Homage to Classic Italian Cinema.” The exhibit will launch on November 11th at the Italian Cultural Institute where it will run through November 27th. Kirkland is a prestigious photographer whose work has been recognized internationally, including in Vanity Fair’s Italian retrospective in occasion of the Milan Triennale.
